work in progress # 1, September 2016

This is part of a sometimes collaboration with Sonya Russell- Saunders / SOMA projects. My work on this short image / sound piece continues my interest with notions of documentary; this takes as a starting point my own personal response to place, event and situation and what is gathered and how it is re-constructed. I am exploring details and minute, parts of activities and interactions, the fleeting moments of encounter which are often slightly out of focus.

'Collective Representation: the smile and chat policy' January 2015

This is the second part of the project with curator Sonya Russell-Saunders. For this, the process was more collaborative; we worked as a group on a process of creating an event; I made a video/sound piece that was shown at the private view (which is the next pieces in this galley) and another from material gathered at the PV that was shown as the exhibition after the PV.

This consolidated my interest in non documentry documents of event. How pulling out detail can highlight elements of what occured and the potential that something as simple as a fixed point of view camera can give us an otherwise hidden view on an event.

Video piece made in advance of show opening event, shown on the opening night and (with another pieces made from materials gathered through opening event) for the duration of the show.

'Interaction Order' January 2014

This was the first project I was involved in with curator Sonya Russell-Suanders.

I created a sound piece from material gatherd at the private view on the 14th January; it was a re mediation to re present the event; not a document of what had occured, but more a re telling of what it was like to be there. The sound piece was shown from the 16th of January - so was made in 48h

in Early 2015 I worked with Kirsten Adkins on a collaborative project to make a book about the shroud room at Newman Brothers Coffin Works Birmingham.  It consisted of images of small details of the space intersperced with text that was an interpritation of stores told to us about the space and the people who worked there.

It was made as part of a Transient Arts project 'Game Over' and was launched at a Museums at Night event.

Kirstin and I are developing further collaborative projects again - exploring remenants, details and interprated memories of often overlooked locations and lives.
